Causes of the Revolution


What caused the Haiti Revolution was that the French plantation owners were getting wealthy. They bought more land, and more slaves. The French brought thousands of slaves from Africa to work in the plantations. The slaves didn't like being treated like animals, and many of them missed Africa, so with all the slaves, they were able to join together for a rebellion against the French. The night that they fought against their masters was called 'The Night of Fire'. Although hundreds of rebellions occurred in the New World during the centuries of slavery, only the St. Domingue Slave Revolt and was successful in achieving independence for a new nation. The Haitian Revolution was one of the most successful rebelions in the history of Africans in the New World.
